THE FEDERAL FIGHT

In 1996, The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.
For the first time in U.S. history, "marriage" and "spouse" are defined to exclude same-sex couples.
Better termed "The Anti-Gay Marriage Act", opponents to this legislation have taken the fight to local statehouses and constitutional amendments.
